Doctors & Dentists

Concisa administers the mandatory contributions for retirement and survivor benefits, as well as the professional association dues for Vienna’s physicians and the professional association dues for Vienna’s dentists. Physicians and dentists pay income-based mandatory contributions to the welfare fund for retirement and survivor benefits. The medical association fees are also income-based mandatory contributions that cover the costs of the Medical Association’s advocacy on behalf of physicians.

The same applies to the dental association fees paid by dentists, which cover the costs of the Dental Association’s advocacy on behalf of dentists.

Medical Association Dues

The chamber dues are the mandatory contributions that Viennese physicians pay to their professional association—the Vienna Medical Association. This does not include the responsibilities of the Vienna Welfare Fund.  In addition, the Vienna Medical Association uses the collected association dues to fulfill its contribution obligations to the Austrian Medical Association.

Legal Basis

Section 91 of the Medical Practitioners Act regulates the association dues to be collected by the individual provincial medical associations. Pursuant to Section 80(6) of the Medical Practitioners Act (ÄrzteG), it is the responsibility of the General Assembly to adopt a dues regulation. Association dues I and II are set annually by the General Assembly of the Vienna Medical Association in the dues regulations.
The Medical Practitioners Act (§ 69) requires members of the Medical Association to pay the association dues.
Pursuant to § 91(3) of the Medical Practitioners Act (ÄrzteG), the maximum limit for the association fee is set at 3% of income from medical practice.
For association fees subject to estimation, a late payment surcharge equal to 10% of the association fees will be assessed. With the first amendment to the Contribution Regulations, a maximum contribution of €24,000 per year was set for Chamber Contribution I, and a maximum contribution of €12,000 per year was set for Chamber Contribution II.

Services Provided by the Vienna Medical Association

The Vienna Medical Association sees itself as the representative body for Vienna’s physicians and publicly advocates for the interests of its members. As a professional association, the Medical Association is legally obligated to represent and promote the common professional, social, and economic interests of physicians.

The Medical Association fulfills its legal mandate by, for example...

  • negotiating collective bargaining agreements
  • entering into agreements to regulate the relationships between physicians and social insurance providers
  • collaborating on the continuing education of physicians at medical university facilities
  • submitting reports, expert opinions, and proposals to the authorities concerning the education and continuing education of physicians, as well as all other interests of physicians and the healthcare system in general
  • contributing to official health statistics
  • reviews the fees charged for medical services, including the remuneration agreed upon in employment contracts
  • establishes information centers that provide guidance on relevant health and social welfare regulations pertaining to the practice of medicine
  • reviews the quality of training for resident physicians
