It´s Easy to Plan Ahead

Always covered with the Abfertigung NEU

Employees and self-employed individuals benefit from 1.53% of their gross pay (the contribution base), which is transferred to a severance payment fund (Vorsorgekasse). The BONUS Vorsorgekasse invests the contributions in a sustainable, secure, and transparent manner. Upon leaving employment, you have the option of choosing between short-term social security coverage or long-term retirement savings.

Reform of the Occupational Pension System

New options for your pension provision from 2028 onwards

On September 23, the National Council approved a reform of occupational pension plans. Starting January 1, 2028, this will open up new opportunities for you and your retirement planning. All employees will be given access to a pension fund solution even if their employer does not offer one. In addition, you will be able to decide for yourself how your contributions are invested under the “Abfertigung NEU” program.

For more information, please refer to the points listed below:

Key Changes Effective January 1, 2028

In the future, severance pay entitlements can be transferred to a pension fund by all employees. With the new standard product for the transfer of pension entitlements (SPÜV—also known as the General Pension Fund Agreement), this option will be available to all employees starting in 2028. Previously, this was only possible for individuals whose employers already offered their own pension fund model. The reform removes this existing restriction and creates broader access to a lifelong supplemental pension.

In addition to the existing “Abfertigung NEU” system with a capital guarantee, starting in 2028 you will also be able to invest severance pay benefits in a pension investment fund (Vorsorge-VG) on a long-term basis and without a capital guarantee. In principle, the options for accessing these funds will only become available upon retirement (e.g., lump-sum payment, transfer to a pension fund). Exceptions are made for cases of hardship as defined by law. Because of the limited options for accessing funds, your capital in the Pension Investment Pool can be invested for the longer term, which opens up the opportunity for better investment returns.

The decision to opt for the Pension Investment Pool is made on a voluntary basis (“opt-in model”). Once per calendar year, you can decide whether you wish to remain in this Pension Investment Pool or return to saving under the traditional guaranteed option.

To counteract the fragmentation of accounts, pension accounts into which no severance contributions have been paid for the past three years will in the future be automatically merged with the active main account. If this applies to you, you do not need to take any action: Your active pension fund will inform you in a timely manner about the planned merger. If necessary, you can object. The rollout will begin in 2028 and will take place in phases.

BONUS Takes Over the fair-finance Vorsorgekasse

BONUS Pensionskassen Aktiengesellschaft has acquired all shares in the fair-finance Pension Fund from the Sinnova Group. With its entry in the commercial register on September 24, 2025, the merger is now complete. fair-finance is thus fully integrated into BONUS Vorsorgekasse and will operate exclusively under the name BONUS going forward.

All existing agreements and contracts with the fair-finance Pension Fund remain valid, of course, and the trusted service team is here for you as usual.

Please note that, for the time being, the existing IT system of the former fair-finance will continue to be used. The portal will also remain available to you in its current form. You can find it at the top right under “Go to Customer Portal.”

Here you will find two information sheets regarding the merger—one for employers and one for employees.
